Early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha and transfer to Momella Gate (1,500m) in Arusha National Park. After park formalities, begin your trek through lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys, giraffes, and a variety of birds. The trail winds past waterfalls and scenic viewpoints, offering glimpses of Mount Meru’s dramatic slopes. After 4-5 hours of hiking, arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) for your first night on the mountain. Enjoy a hot meal and rest in the comfort of the mountain hut.
Leave the rainforest and ascend through montane forest and open heath, with views of Meru’s crater and the Ash Cone. The trail is steep in places but offers rewarding vistas. After 3-5 hours, reach Saddle Hut (3,570m), where you’ll rest and prepare for the summit attempt. In the afternoon, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for panoramic views.
Begin your summit attempt around midnight, climbing by headlamp to Socialist Peak (4,566m). Enjoy breathtaking sunrise views over Kilimanjaro and the crater rim. Descend to Saddle Hut for breakfast, then continue down to Momella Gate, passing through rainforest and open meadows. Transfer back to Arusha, arriving by late afternoon.
